In today's writing environment, many newer writers have a blog in part to build up a platform--- a base of followers. Publishers actually look for that. Author Holly Lisle has a good blog post up: Your Online Presence: Creating a Haven for the People you Want to Know hollylisle.com/writingdiary2/index.php/2010/12/13/your-online-presence-creating-a-haven-for-the-people-you-want-to-know/ It has a lot of good points on how to make your blog more comfortable for the sort of people who could become your fans--- and how to discourage those who would drag you and your blog in directions you don't want to go. If you are a writer and you blog, I think it's helpful to look at the blogs of other writers who blog. You can learn a lot that will help you with your blog.

Hmmm...I've considered getting a blog, but whether anyone would want to listen to the deranged ramblings of a three-quarters insane misanthrope is debatable...
Oh, what am I saying? Ben 'Yahtzee' Croshaw has a blog.
